Even when Dean Ferguson was employed as a Serviceman, he helped his parents run their training company. Initially running errands working up to being the Operations Manager for Unit 9 training, taking it from a local business to a highly respected training delivery company covering the whole South East of the UK. Having served 22 years in the British Army in both EOD Search and training positions, Dean retired at the rank of Major having completed a tour as a HQ Company Commander. His first venture, a Project Management company called ‘The Solution Exchange,’ saw him build a substantial client base, before taking on the challenge to develop all administrative and training aspects of BV Associates.
Dean now heads both the public and private sector company training portfolios. More recently he has spearheaded the development of now highly respected NEBOSH online courses, mapping the NEBOSH certificate courses (NEBOSH NGC, NEBOSH Construction (NC), NEBOSH Environment (EMC), NEBOSH Process Safety (PSM) and NEBOSH Fire Safety (FSC)) across to both NEBOSH virtual and NEBOSH e-learning/distance learning training delivery options.
Dean’s passion remains his commitment to providing advice to service leavers. He has written 2 books and he enjoys working on his classic car and DIY.

Our Head of Training Operations, Nik Taylor, left the services as a Warrant Officer Class 1 and he is now a Major and Company Commander with the British Army Reserves.
Dean and Nik have known each other for over 30 years and their working relationship is one of a shared vision when it comes to the training delivery. Nik’s infectious NEBOSH course delivery is legendary. His determination to provide additional support above and beyond what all of the learners expectations is widely respected. This is what makes people come back to us time and time again for their safety training needs. He not only deliverers exceptional training, he builds confidence. Nik has a wealth of experience, is qualified to degree level but has a chartered level working knowledge of everything health and safety.
As a consultant, he makes it his mission to get inside the workings of the company to understand the personality of a business. Nik’s highest accolade is his ability to jump between fire, construction, environment and general training related issues, seeing the bigger picture. He feeds this back into the training delivery and takes every single one of our students on a journey. Claire Carlton
Lead Training Advisor
Read my bio
Claire Carlton has two hats, she is the Lead Training Advisor during NEBOSH courses and EA to the Directors. She works tirelessly to ensure the students training journey is the best it can be and she is not shy in pointing out the occasional flaws of our Awarding Bodies (and she is rarely wrong!). A consummate professional, she rightly receives constant praise for the administrative support she gives to everyone training with us.
Our learners are made to feel part of the family and Claire shares everyones ups and downs, failures and successes. It is her tenacity that pushes both the students and entire BV associates team on. Claire comes up with innovative ideas and work-arounds within the bounds of the IOSH and NEBOSH accreditations – traits that reinforce and complement the training delivery. She is respected by the whole team for her ability to look at the detail, moreover, argue for the students position both internally and externally. As such, she is dependable, reliable, craves responsibility and her input is respected by every one she has daily contact with.
Many of our students stay in touch with us and let Claire know how they are getting on with their careers. It is often a relationship built on trust, mutual respect and a shared journey. There is little she doesn’t know about the various NEBOSH certificates so call her to discuss your options.
